Leading in the Moment
Here is my speaking outline for my keynote for this afternoon’s LifeWay National Women’s Leadership Forum. You can also scroll down to the bottom of the post and download it in a pdf file. There are over 600 women’s ministry leaders at the forum this year… enough to start a revolution.
MOMENTum. . . Leading in the Moment
By Mary Kassian
LifeWay Women’s Leadership Forum – November 13, 2009
1.     Moment, Momentum & Movements
a. Moment from Latin momentum = movement
i. A Moment is a brief period of time
ii. A Moment can be an important or significant occasion or time (Momentous)
b. Momentum from Latin momentum = movement
i. “Momentum” is the force that keeps something moving and developing in a certain direction over time.
c. Moment > Momentum > Movement
i. A movement is a large group of people who make a collective effort to achieve or reform something.
ii. Movements are created by people who respond to moments
iii. Like the men of Issachar who understood times and knew what the people of God ought to do (1 Chronicles 12:32)
2.     The Moment that Birthed a Movement
a. Betty Friedan’s Moment & the Women’s Movement
b. The Problem
i. Women don’t have the right to dictate what womanhood is all about Isaiah 29:16; 45:9
ii. When we lose sight of biblical manhood and womanhood, we lose sight of an image of the gospel – Ephesians 5
c. Markers of that Moment
i. The moment came on the heels of massive Social Change
ii. The past formula for Women’s Happiness hadn’t delivered
iii. Undercurrent of Discontent

b. Markers that mirror the Moment that launched the secular Women’s movement
i. We are on the heels of massive Social Change – Internet
ii. The past formula for Women’s Happiness hasn’t delivered
iii. There’s an undercurrent of Discontent

Mary,
What a powerful and spirit filled moment your presentation was this afternoon!
I too hope that in 30 years I will look back and say that I was there the moment that the Biblical Womanhood movement gained momentum!

Mary, I watched you on the live feed and am thankful for your message. I had purchased and used your message from the last True Woman Conference when teaching a Bible study recently. I wrote a 4-week Bible study last year called, “The View From My Front Porch” A
Woman’s Approach to a Biblical Worldview. The last week of the study is on biblical womanhood. I came across your presentation on Nancy Leigh DeMoss’ site and it simply resonated with me.
Just want you to know I am definitely adding my voice to the echo chamber. My book is available on lulu.com, where I self-published it and over 300 women have taken the study now in different states. Also, I have recently begun a new blog and ministry called Off the Beaten Path. The purpose is to encourage women to get off the wide and crowded road and back on the trail less traveled, the one based on God’s plan for women. Like you, I don’t try to paint women into a corner, just use the broad brush strokes to help them acknowledge that our identity is only found in Christ and His view of us.
I’d love for you to check out my blog and let me know what you think. I have known for sometime that God is calling me lend my voice to this movement. To Him be the glory!
What a powerful presentation! We all left with the determination to make a discernible difference in the Womanhood momentum. I was so inspired!

Mary,
Just got home from the forum in Nashville and a friend and I discussed your presentation alot coming back to Lexington. It was such an eye opener when you realize how we have all been impacted by the culture we live in and what we have passed on our daughters.
Having a 29 yr. old daughter & seeing her life and where she is on the personnal level, makes my heart hurt.
I feel so blessed to have been in the room with such an awesome group of women!!!
Thank you, thank you!!

Mary,
I was in attendance that Friday the 13th you spoke to over 600 women in Nashville, TN. Can I tell you that it felt as if the words were ripped right out of my heart and flowed through your mouth!?! Glory! Hallelujah! Confirmation that revival begins with repentance and IT IS STILL POSSIBLE TODAY! Thank you for your obedience for it is better than sacrifice….most speakers would have started having thoughts of getting home way before that 3 a.m. hour! Praying blessings on you and your ministry!

Mary,
I was blessed enough to be the Leadership Conference in Nashville last week and wanted to tell you how much your message meant to me. I will tell you that by the time I got to your afternoon session, my brain was in overload and I was already looking forward to the break from 5:00 to 7:30. Wow…..did you ever change my mindset and attitude! When you took the stage and began your presentation I wasn’t sure where you were going but you got my attention quickly.
Mary….what you said, changed my way of thinking completely. I had never thought about the way our culture has progressed from the 60’s to now. Of course, I know it has changed with time but you put so many pieces together and really opened my eyes. I cannot tell you how excited I am and how much I want to share your message with others. I love your passion for the Lord, his word and women! I look forward to leaning the scriptures and your words as I raise my 9 year old.
Thank you so much for speaking at the conference and thank you Lord for allowing me to be there!

Wow…just wow. Your message resonated within me. I’ve put together some of what you said in my own mind as I have worked with senior girls and with women, but to hear the historical connection put so succinctly was both enlightening and sad. I pray that others will see the connection with the Feminist Worldview and the sad state that most girls and women are in today. I pray that God’s view of women will grow and resonate within women, and they will indeed find their true worth and identity in Christ.
