These are just a few of my thoughts on the subject, but it is easier for men to obtain some of the higher paying jobs doing manual labor than it is for women, because they have the strength to do so. This could be one reason why the numbers are lower for men in colleges. Another reason there may be more women in colleges is because of the disparity in pay between men and women; a woman must have more education than the average man to be paid as much as the average man. Also, the internet is making it possible for women who have children to go to college while their children are at home with them, or they are finding that they need that college degree to re-enter the work force after taking years off to raise children.

I really believe the main reason why there are more men than women in college is the fact alot of men are not feeling called to go to college. Alot of men where I live at in Loiuisiana go to trade schools so they dont get to much into debt by going to he four year school. I am not against college I am a college grad myself and have three college degrees. Also alot of men are going into the Armed Forces because they can't afford college.Great article.

The problem is that so many boys are growing up in families where women as the only parent, no strong male role-model house holds as well as society's allowance of young men to shirk off their responsibilities. The strong men, the world war II generation, is no longer around for the most part. We are seeing what happens now that the day care generation has grown up. Many of these kids grew up in day care settings, its no wonder they are frustrated with school by the time college roles around. We need strong leaders, both men and women. The lack of education and the act of "unmanning" the next generation of men will effect society in such a profound way.
