This is definitely true! I attend a four-year Baptist liberal arts college here in the south, and this topic is so prevalent within my close-knit group of girl-friends. They feel obligated to have a career so that they can be "comfortable" in the future marriages and also because men are not stepping up to their role. We have severly scared the true nature of biblical womanhood and manhood.
We simply MUST return to the Scriptures!!

I would agree that a man has the power to make a woman feel special and thus happy.
And I also like what the "dead white man" said...
"Ask yourself if you are happy, and you will cease to be so."
I believe that is because people, especially women, define happiness as that elated state when
he first asked me to dance and I felt so special,
or he told me I was beautiful and I wanted to fly,
or holding that baby in my arms for the first time,
or getting that great promotion above all my male coworkers.
And in order to be happy we must constantly be in that euphoric condition, and when we ask ourselves "Am I happy?" and think about it and then realize that the feeling doesn't last we get confused and depressed.
Perhaps it is better to ask the question "Am I content?" One thing I am striving to instill in my heart is that nothing but God can bring me contentment and joy. Nothing but God and nothing in addition to him.

Women are finally finding out (or have found out) what many men knew all along: "having it all" ain't all it's cracked up to be.

However, like children who grow from toddlers to adolescents to adults, it seems that we are living in a world of perpetual adolescents: both men and women who simply don't want to take on the full resposnibiities that come with being a mature adult. And no, it's not all fun and games. Life is a serious business, and happiness can be a seldom thing. We are only guaranteed the right of the PURSIUT of happiness, not its constant presence in our lives.

And yet more and more adults are behaving as if the world owes them not only a living, but all the happiness they can grab, to boot.

I'm sure feminism contributed to this malaise in some part, but I fear that the root goes far deeper than simply that.

I don't know what the solution is, but feminism is most assuredly not it.

I am currently reading Carolyn Mahaney's "Feminine Appeal", and just finished the section of Chapter 6: The Honor of Working at Home, entitled, "The Failure of Feminism"...which says the exact same thing! I had to pull out the book and look again, the dejavu was so strong! Not to imply that there's copying going on; rather, it's just that these same TRUE themes again rise to the forefront. I also recently finished "The Way Home" by Mary Pride, and I love to see God's Word affirmed by His people (His women!). Ladies need constantly to hear the Truth of Christ to expose the lies they have unwittingly, and unfortunately, believed. Thank you, Mary.

One aspect of the Freidan quote that I noticed is that the women she described were doing everything alone. There was little, if any, aspect of community in the description. God alone can fulfill us, I wholeheartedly agree. I also can't help but wonder if the lack of community in suburban life then and in most lives today contributes to the dissatisfaction many people feel.
