I think a powerful woman is a woman who has power over herself, not necessarily others. We think a woman who can manipulate her husband into doing what she wants, or boss her coworkers around, or strike fear in the hearts of anyone who would oppose her, is a powerful woman. But in my own experience, it takes much more power to control ourselves... our emotions, our desires, our sin nature, our discontentment... than it does to control others. Like Mary says, there's nothing wrong with being a powerful woman, as long as we use the power in the right way.

As a successful business owner, I often calculate my success by the number of awards and mentions I receive from my colleagues. I am a Christian, but I often misplace my values and purpose. I want to thank you for reminding me of what my true purpose and mission are as a Christian wife, mother and business woman. My college age daughter referred me to your blog. She models the values of a christian young woman daily and my prayer is that I may continue to reinforce the values I have taught her thorough my walk daily. Thank you.

Well said.
This is a subject I struggle with daily having exposure to very powerful women in banking & finance. In many ways I want what they've achieved: respect, influence, financial security, etc.
As the author says, and Tim Keller for that matter, there is always danger in making a good thing an ultimate thing. Only He can have that place in our hearts.

Oh, how l loved this statement, "There is far greater glory in bearing the nails of Christ’s cross than in a having a fancy title nailed to my door." As a christian woman it has really edified me concerning the isuue of power. Thank you.

I think that our culture has so injected us with its idea of power and success that its often difficult to remember this. I know I struggle with not feeling like the least powerful woman in the world each and every day, so this was a good reminder to focus on what God looks for, not what the world expects.
