I remember battles with my mom in the dressing room over what I could buy and trying my hardest to convince her that the difference between a three inch wide tank top strap and a one inch wide tank top wasn't that big of a deal. Besides, it doesn't show anything my bathing suit doesn't show! (that was my old fallback What were some of the rules your moms had? Or your friend's moms? Which do you look back on as wise? Any funny over the top rules? I know I wish I had appreciated those rules when I was growing up more than I did!

I don't really remember any outlandish rules at our house, but I do remember the frustration of wanting to look more "in style" and being upset that my mother continued to make me wear what I considered to be childish dresses when I was in middle school.
But, I also remember how special the times were when my Mother took time to go shopping with me to find clothes.

I think it is a blessing when Moms take the time to teach their daughters that modesty doesn't mean outdated or childish and help them cultivate good taste in clothing while not being obsessive with outward appearance.
