Betty Boop Man-Training Kit
With capital letters and an exclamation mark, Betty Boop’s modern Man-Training Kit encourages women to “WHIP HIM GOOD!” — The innocent looking big-eyed Betty Boop doll sports a formidable black whip in her hand for that very purpose.

Leading in the Moment
Here is my speaking outline for my keynote for this afternoon’s LifeWay National Women’s Leadership Forum. You can also scroll down to the bottom of the post and download it in a pdf file. There are over 600 women’s ministry leaders at the forum this year… enough to start a revolution.

Drunk – The New Female Tenderness?
So I’m watching the latest romantic comedy when I sense it coming. “Oh, no, here comes the drunk scene,” I groan aloud.
Everyone else in the room looks at me, question marks popping up over their heads.
“Watch,” I say, gesturing toward the TV. “This is the turning point in their relationship. She gets drunk. He has [...]
The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness
In the sixties, when Betty Friedan diagnosed her fellow wives and daughters as the victims of “the problem with no name,” American women reported themselves happier, on average, than did men. Today, that statistic has reversed. Male happiness has inched up, while female happiness has declined…. Feminism pumped its best medicine into woman’s veins, but somehow, it merely exacerbated the disease.

Shuttle Bus Equality
Including me, six women got on the shuttle. It was the last stop before the bus left the airport terminals for the rental car depot. Every seat was taken. All six of us wrestled our luggage onto the bus and grabbed hold of the overhead rails. The driver hit the gas and the bus began [...]

Work it Out, Girl!
On his recently-released CD Storiez, Christian rapper shai linne encourages women to work out their womanhood in a radical, counter-cultural way. In Work it Out,” the Philadelphia-born artist contrasts the Bible’s vision of the Gospel-transformed woman with the sexualized, narcissistic and radically individualistic woman of pop culture.

Creed is derived from the Latin word credo, “to believe.†Therefore, if you have the capacity to believe in something, then you have a creed – even if it’s an unspoken one.

I’m getting ready to hop on a plane tomorrow morning for my bi-annual trek down to Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. I’ll be teaching an intensive Master’s level course on Feminist Theology. I’ve taught this particular course for many years, at Southern and at other seminaries.
Those of you who know me well know that I [...]
She Told Two Friends…
There were a series of TV commercials in the 1970s that featured a young woman who cheerfully chirped that she “told two friends about Faberge Organic Shampoo, who told two friends, who told two friends, and so on, and so on…” while her image multiplied relentlessly on the screen.
The commercial was annoying, but the principle [...]
True Woman
Several years ago, I was lounging around with Nancy Leigh DeMoss and a couple of her friends, sipping hot mugs of tea in her living room. Though the atmosphere was casual, the conversation was anything but. We talked about the history of the women’s movement and feminism… about philosophy, theology and doctrine. We cried about [...]

Girls Gone Wild!
Girls have gone wild! Our culture has produced a whole generation of Jungle Janes – breast-baring, butt-kicking, in-your-face, my-way-or-highway female aggressors. Countering this trend is the biblical image of a beautiful godly woman. Here are “21 Points of Contrast” to help you compare and contrast the two. Download and print the powerpoint outline. Read the [...]
